Water System Improvements

The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) will begin work Monday, May 4, to upgrade a major water line in southwest Miami-Dade County.

Crews will install a valve on a 96-inch raw water main near Southwest 123rd Avenue and Sunset Drive (Southwest 72nd Street), which supplies water to the Alexander Orr Water Treatment Plant. The project is designed to strengthen the system, reduce service interruptions during maintenance or emergencies, and support future growth.

The work is expected to take about four weeks. Beginning Monday, May 11, construction will take place 24 hours a day to speed up completion.

WASD has already conducted an initial test of the system, which showed no negative impacts. A full test shutdown will take place later in the project to confirm system performance. Residents in the area will be notified in advance.

What to Expect

Water service is not expected to be shut off. However, some customers may notice lower water pressure, especially during peak morning and evening hours.

Residents in high-rise buildings in southwest Miami-Dade should ask building maintenance staff to check booster pump systems, which help deliver water to upper floors. Adjustments may be needed to maintain consistent service.

You may also notice cloudy water at times. This is temporary and does not affect water quality. If this occurs, run the tap for three to five minutes until the water clears.
