Planned/Proposed Projects 

The Community Recreation Department maintains a 5 Year Capital Improvement Matrix to budget for the replacement, enhancements or renovations of its existing park and open space inventory. Stay up to date on new projects, community input meetings and opportunities as well as project timelines and construction updates.

The Blue Road Open Space was named David Lawrence Jr. and Family Park. Thank you to everyone who provided their input. Below is the site plan and community meeting discussing the open space May 2023.

Blue Road Open Space Community Meeting

A community meeting to present and discuss the Granada Golf Course rain shelters was held May 29 at 6 p.m. at Coral Gables Golf & Country Club. 

The following proposed designs will be available for review and community input from Friday, May 30, to Monday, June 30.

Renovation

Beginning Monday, November 3, 2025 Phillips Park will close temporarily as we kick off major upgrades to enhance your park experience. The renovation project includes a new synthetic turf multipurpose field, modern playground, refreshed playing courts, and updated pavilion and restrooms.

The Venetian Pool located at 2701 De Soto Blvd is currently undergoing a full renovation of its concession stand area in hopes of providing a more modern and efficient way to dine at the historic location. 

  • Contractor: Vercetti Enterprises
  • Expected Completion Date: Spring 2025

Meanwhile as concessions remain closed, outside food and beverages will be allowed in the facility, but please note that alcohol, glass containers, and coolers are not permitted on the premises.

Recently Completed Projects

Maggiore Park, on 5028 Maggiore Street, Coral Gables, will be transformed into a multi-faceted public space to provide the community with several park amenities. Construction has begun! For additional information, please email ParksProjects@coralgables.com.

  • Oct. 20, 2022: The window for public comment in relation to the proposed Merrick Park ADA improvement is now closed.
  • Sept. 15, 2022: Plans are in place for a walkway in Merrick Park (across from City Hall, 405 Biltmore Way). See below for a PDF.

  • Project Scope: New concrete walkways, landscaping, sand surfacing, grading, asphalt pavement resurfacing, perimeter fence, drainage repairs and installation of a water service line for a new dog park.
