Traffic Advisorys: LeJeune Rd and Bird Rd

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will begin a roadway improvement project on January 5, 2026 along the following corridors in Miami-Dade County:

  • State Road (S.R.) 976 / Bird Road / SW 40 Street from east of Laguna Street to west of SW 38 Avenue
  • State Road (S.R.) 953 / SR 952 / LeJeune Road / SW 42 Avenue from South Dixie Highway to Altara Avenue

Lane Closure Hours

Bird Road (SW 40 Street)

  • Eastbound: 8:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., weekdays
  • Westbound: 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., weekdays

LeJeune Road (SW 42 Avenue)

  • 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weekdays and weekends
  • 10 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday nights
  • 11 p.m. to 8 a.m., Friday and Saturday nights

Lane closure information will be posted weekly at www.southflroads.com.

What to Expect:

Work will be completed in phases to minimize impacts to the community. Temporary lane closures may be required during non-peak hours. Access to businesses and residences will be maintained at all times. Detours, when necessary, will be clearly marked with signage.

Project Benefits

This project is designed to improve safety, mobility, and infrastructure resiliency for the surrounding communities. Improvements include:

Community Enhancements

  • Reconstruction of sidewalks, curbs, and gutters
  • Green-colored pavement markings and signage at trail crossings

Safety Improvements

  • Upgraded pedestrian signage
  • New signalized pedestrian midblock crossing
  • Installation of ground-mounted “No Turn on Red” signs

Resiliency

  • Drainage system improvements

Roadway Improvements

  • Repaving and restriping of the roadway

Technology Upgrades

  • Replacement of traffic and pedestrian signals
  • Installation of traffic video detection systems and a new traffic monitoring site
