The City of Coral Gables launched a one-year pilot of a new Southern Loop Trolley route on Monday, Nov. 3, 2025. This free route will extend trolley service from the Douglas Road Metrorail Station to Red Road (SW 57 Ave.) via Ponce de Leon Blvd., improving access to key destinations including the University of Miami, medical offices, schools, and other community hubs. The route is a no-cost option to get to and from the UM campus and connects with Metrorail and the two other Coral Gables trolley routes.  

Funded partly by the Florida Department of Transportation, the pilot aims to expand sustainable transportation options in Coral Gables. The city will monitor ridership and feedback to decide if the route will continue beyond the pilot year. Community use and feedback will shape its future.
