Juneteenth Hours of Operation

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and issued General Order No. 3, informing enslaved people of their freedom — more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. Due to the realities of the Civil War and limited Union enforcement in Texas, many enslaved people remained unaware of their freedom until that day.

Today, Juneteenth celebrates freedom, resilience and the ongoing pursuit of a more inclusive future. In observance of this national holiday, City of Coral Gables administrative offices will be closed Friday, June 19. Garbage, trash and recycling services will operate on a normal schedule.
