Most parochial schools will welcome students on Monday, Aug. 10, depending on each school's calendar. Miami-Dade County Public Schools begin classes on Thursday, Aug. 13, and the University of Miami's fall semester begins Monday, Aug. 17. 

With the return of school comes increased traffic throughout the city, especially near school zones and university areas. "We remind all drivers to slow down, remain alert, and obey posted school zone speed limits," said Coral Gables Police Chief Edward J. Hudak, Jr. "The safety of our students and pedestrians is a top priority as the new school year begins."
