City of Coral Gables Announces 2026 Giralda Sky Series
CORAL GABLES, FL – Following the overwhelming success of the beloved Umbrella Sky installation in 2018, the City of Coral Gables is proud to introduce the 2026 Giralda Sky Series, a dynamic continuation of immersive public art that will transform Giralda Plaza from May through October 2026.
This year’s series will feature two unique overhead installations designed to bring art, culture and community together in one of the city’s most vibrant pedestrian corridors, creating a visually striking and engaging destination for residents and visitors alike.
Kicking off the series is “Cielo Tejido: A Woven Sky,” on view from May through July. This colorful installation will transform Giralda Plaza into a breathtaking canopy of handwoven textiles, suspended overhead and rich in movement, texture and cultural significance.
Handwoven by women from Etzatlán, Mexico, Cielo Tejido highlights traditional weaving techniques passed down through generations, celebrating heritage, craftsmanship and the power of global cultural exchange. The installation is made possible with the support of the Consulate of Mexico, further strengthening the city’s commitment to showcasing diverse artistic expressions.
“Cielo Tejido is more than an art installation, it is a celebration of culture, community and creativity,” said City Manager, Peter Iglesias. “We are proud to bring this vibrant experience to Giralda Plaza and continue building on the success of previous installations that have activated our downtown in meaningful ways.”
The second installation will be on display from August through October.
Giralda in Bloom: A Floral Canopy will bring a new fun floral twist to the classic Umbrella Sky that took the city by storm. Created by Impact Plan, the original designers behind Umbrella Sky
in Portugal and the 2018 Gables installation, this fresh display features hundreds of floral-patterned umbrellas suspended above the plaza, turning the corridor into a dazzling tapestry of color that provides both beauty and shade for visitors.
Unlike typical umbrella installations, Giralda in Bloom celebrates Coral Gables with bright flower designs crafted to foster connection and joy. The installation not only brightens downtown but also creates a playful, must-visit destination, inviting all to linger, take photos and enjoy the creative energy in the heart of the city.
