“Cielo Tejido” Installation on Display at Giralda Plaza
Coral Gables, FL – Following its official debut and ribbon-cutting this past Friday, the City of Coral Gables is now welcoming residents and visitors to experience the Cielo Tejido installation firsthand at Giralda Plaza, bringing a dynamic new attraction to the heart of downtown. The handwoven canopy casts a mosaic of color and pattern across the plaza below. The opening weekend was marked with pedestrians eager for a glimpse of the woven sky.
Crafted by artisans from Etzatlán, Mexico and in partnership with the Consulate of Mexico in Miami, the installation brings traditional weaving techniques into a contemporary public setting, offering a blend of culture, craftsmanship and design. It also reflects Coral Gables’ commitment to being a world-class city that celebrates global cultures and brings diverse traditions into its public spaces.
“Cielo Tejido brings new energy to Giralda Plaza and creates more opportunities for residents and visitors to spend time in downtown,” said Economic Development Director Belkys Perez. “By pairing cultural installations with ongoing programming and outdoor experiences, we’re creating an environment where people want to spend time and support our local businesses.”
Cielo Tejido is the first part of a two-part rotating art series at Giralda Plaza and will be on display through July as part of the Giralda Sky Series, with a second installation, “Giralda in Bloom: A Floral Canopy,” debuting in August, featuring hundreds of floral-patterned umbrellas suspended overhead.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to visit Giralda Plaza to experience the installation and explore the surrounding dining and shopping destinations.
