Coral Gables Art Cinema presents a screening of “Ethan Bloom,” followed by a Q&A with director Herschel Faber and producer Maylen Dominguez.
This coming-of-age comedy follows 13-year-old Ethan Bloom as he navigates loss, questions of faith and first love. As he prepares for his bar mitzvah, Ethan — despite being raised in a Jewish family — becomes convinced that his spiritual calling lies with the Catholic Church, where he secretly seeks guidance from Father Diaz, portrayed by Carlos Ponce.
With support from an unconventional rabbi, played by Rachelle Lefevre, the complicated love of his father, portrayed by Joshua Malina, and a budding romance with a fearless classmate, Ethan is forced to confront his grief and the consequences of his deception. Ultimately, the film explores how identity and faith are shaped not by choosing sides, but by understanding oneself.
