Building Permits
All plan submittals and permit applications must be submitted electronically, including signatures. Going to visit the Development Services Center? Check the wait times. Please note that the recommended times for visiting are tentative and subject to change.
Qualifying residential permit applications are automatically enrolled in the Same Day Permit Program when submitted through the city’s existing online permitting portal. There is no separate application, form or additional step required.
Applications submitted with initial fees paid before 8 a.m. are reviewed the same day. Applications submitted after 8 a.m. are automatically enrolled for review the following business day, if they have not been reviewed by then.
Eligible projects include:
• Roofing
• Doors and windows
• Exterior painting
• Asphalt driveways
• Certain interior renovations, including kitchens and bathrooms
The program does not apply to:
• Historic properties or properties within historic districts
• Projects using private providers
• Projects requiring structural or mechanical review
• Sub-permits that must be filed under a master permit
• Kitchen or bathroom renovations involving HVAC work or range hoods that require outside air or ventilation
An application may also be removed from the program if a Board of Architects reviewer determines that it cannot be approved administratively.
Same-day review does not guarantee same-day approval or permit issuance. If corrections or additional information are required, the applicant must address those items before the application can be approved.
