Pepe Mar was born in Mexico (1977) and lives and works in Miami, Florida. Pepe Mar excavates histories through fashion, ephemera, and symbols of times and cultures past. He recombines his practice into a complex and layered microcosm of his influences. The archival impetus of his practice brings new perspectives to both art and non-art audiences.

Artist Statement: Excavating histories through the fashions, ephemera, and symbols of times and cultures past, I recombine my practice into a complex and layered microcosm of the influences from which I have drawn. These historical investigations unravel across vast swaths of custom-printed fabric which feature images I have created throughout my career combined, collaged, painted, and sewn alongside archival artifacts including snapshots, newspaper clippings, documents, and even overlooked art. These works bring together voices integral to my practice but also integral to history. The archival impetus of my practice brings new perspectives to both art and non-art audiences.
