The City of Coral Gables is proud to launch a new program at commission meetings that honors local veterans by inviting them to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. This initiative recognizes the men and women who have served our country and highlights how many continue that service through ongoing contributions to our community.
Through this program, the City Commission is proud to recognize veterans not only for their military service, but also for the many ways they continue to strengthen our community. Whether through public service, professional leadership, or civic involvement, each participant reflects the enduring values of duty, service, and commitment that define both our nation and the City of Coral Gables.
Each commission meeting the page will be updated to honor our veterans.
The program began on Feb. 10, 2026, with Sgt. Tomas Salcedo, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a longtime member of the Coral Gables Police Department. After serving his country from 1996 to 2004, Sgt. Salcedo continued his commitment to public service by joining the Police Department, where he has served in a variety of leadership and operational roles.
On Feb. 24, 2026, the city was honored to welcome Lt. Mairet Murias, a veteran of the United States Navy, who served nearly eight years as a nuclear submarine engineer. Since joining the City of Coral Gables in 2024, she has continued her public service as the Administrative and Fiscal Affairs Manager for the Parking, Sustainability and Mobility Department.
