Coral Gables Art Cinema presents a one-night-only screening of "A Long Way from Home", followed by a Q&A with director Gaspar González.
Directed by González, the documentary examines the experiences of pioneering Black and Latino players who followed Jackie Robinson into previously segregated professional baseball. Many played minor league baseball in small, remote towns where segregation remained entrenched well into the 1960s, facing limited housing options, hostility from teammates and fans, and persistent threats as they pursued careers in the major leagues.
The film features original interviews with former players, including James “Mudcat” Grant, Grover Jones and Jimmy Wynn, and explores a critical chapter in the history of America’s pastime.
