Swale Tree Removal, Relocation, and Trimming Permit Applications
Residents can apply for a permit to perform tree removal, relocation, and tree trimming on existing trees in City swales by executing this permit application and employing a licensed tree company with a certified arborist on staff.
Tree means a woody or fibrous perennial plant with an upright trunk of 4 1/2 inches or more or 12 or more feet in overall height. A tree species include palms, Pandanas, Traveler’s trees (Ravenella madagascarienis) and Clerodendrum species.
Trees with a 18” or larger DBH is considered a specimen. And trees with a 24” DBH or larger, double the mitigation would be required.

The total number of trees required for replacement shall be based on the canopy loss area calculated. Trees with a 24” DBH or larger, will require double the mitigation.
Canopy credits can be reviewed at the Tree Ordinance - Table 82-1 Replacement Tree Canopy credits. The applicant shall submit a site plan that includes the proposed location of all replacement plantings, all property lines, and all proposed and existing structures, drain fields, driveways and utility easements.
If the site cannot accommodate the required replacement trees because of insufficient planting area as determined by the tree preservation agency, then the applicant shall be required to contribute to the city tree trust fund. For each 500 SF of tree canopy deficit, the contribution will be $1,500.
