Kiki Smith's site-inspired installation, Blue Night, consists of forty-two animal constellations. Kiki has long been fascinated with the heavens, human relationship to nature, and constellations. Each animal constellation is made from transparent blue plexiglass sheets with mirrored drawings bonded to the surface. These figures highlight the stars comprising the actual constellations on both sides of the artwork with holographic vinyl.

We welcome you to take the artwork into the skies with a special Augmented Reality (AR) experience. The experience transforms the artwork into the original drawing and allows moving it to align with the constellation or position for an inspired selfie.
A preview of the AR experience was launched as part of Art Basel 2020 to allow those sheltering in place from the pandemic the opportunity to experience public art from the safety of their own home.
KIKI SMITH: Blue Night augmented reality (AR) is made possible in part with the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners.
