The Office of the City Attorney provides legal counsel and representation to the City Commission, City Boards and Committees, the City Clerk and City Manager as well as the various City departments and agencies.
The primary vision of the Office of the City Clerk is to become a learning laboratory, an official resource center and the premier records custodian, utilizing technology where it may be advantageous to do so, to safeguard a vital part of our City’s heritage.
The Commission appoints the City Manager, who serves as chief administrator of the City and ensures that the Commission's policies are properly executed. The Commission also appoints the City Attorney and the City Clerk.
The City of Coral Gables has a Council/Manager form of government. The City Manager is the Chief Executive Officer appointed by the Mayor and City Commission and carries out the policy direction of the City Commission. Pursuant to the City Charter, the Manager appoints and removes all employees in the administrative service of the City. The City Manager’s Office directs the daily activities of the City of Coral Gables, oversees a budget of $195 million and serves a community of approximately 50,000 residents, within a 14 square mile area. The City Manager and Assistant City Managers direct and supervise the activities of 10 City Departments.
The Community Recreation Department oversees the Parks and Recreation, Adult Services, Youth Center and Playgrounds, Tennis Centers, Venetian Pool, Golf Course and Parks Maintenance, Granada Golf Course, and Special Events Divisions. The Department provides a broad range of recreational opportunities for all ages.
The Development Services Department oversees the Planning & Zoning, Building, and Code Enforcement Divisions. The Department provides customer friendly services including the review, processing, and issuance of permits and assurance that construction complies with all applicable codes.
The Economic Development Department fosters sound economic growth and quality of life in the City of Coral Gables. The Department's focus is on economic development, including marketing, enhancement of quality of life, creation of public/private partnerships, supporting existing businesses and bringing new businesses to the City; and negotiation and administration of certain City property agreements.
The Finance Department safeguards the fiscal integrity of the City, reports accurate and timely financial information to the City Commission, the City Manager and the public, and provides financial management and record-keeping support to all the City departments to enable them to carry out their duties efficiently.
The Coral Gables Fire Department provides twenty-four hour emergency services, 365 days a year. The 2014-2015 fiscal year operating budget for the Department is $26,453,723. In addition to the traditional service of fire suppression, the Department also provides advanced and basic life support emergency medical services and transport, rescue operations, fire prevention, life safety inspections, public education, and public information.
Services are provided to the Coral Gables community via three (3) fire stations. Each station covers a district (North, Central, and South) within said jurisdictional area. Each district is backed up by the other, as well as supplemental Cover rendered via a countywide Mutual Aid Agreement. All six fire-rescue departments within Miami-Dade County are committed to this agreement.
Mission- To promote the historic heritage of the City through the local historic designation and design review process with educational programs and publications, to manage City-owned historic properties, to maintain the archives and collections related to the original development; and to celebrate the past, present and future of the City through the Museum Division.
Mission - The overall mission of the Human Resources Department is to use fair and equitable practices to hire, develop, support, train and retain a highly qualified workforce.
The Human Resources Department is responsible for overseeing a wide variety of core functions. These functions include: labor law compliance and policy formulation, employee record keeping and maintenance, development and training, managing the City’s classification and compensation plan, employee benefits to include wellness. In addition, Human Resources is responsible for administering the recruitment and promotional processes to meet the changing service demands of the City, while also ensuring equal employment opportunities for a diversified workforce.
The mission of the Information Technology Department is to provide the City of Coral Gables with reliable, sustainable technical services and innovative solutions that bring value to the organization and its constituents, and enhance business processes and effectiveness for all departments.
Under the direction of the City Manager, the Office of Communications provides timely, proactive and responsive information to the public regarding City services and programs, projects, special events and emergency notifications.
The Coral Gables Police Department is responsible for the protection of life and property, providing a comprehensive range of law enforcement services and crime prevention programs. The Police Department is composed of the Office of the Chief of Police, three operational divisions and two support services divisions. Our force is comprised of 191 sworn police officers.
Mission - The Procurement Division is committed to providing best value results to the City and the public, through professionalism, effective procurement services of the highest ethical standards, and technological and strategic advancements to ensure open and fair competition, in accordance with Federal, State, County and Municipal laws.
The Public Works Department strives to provide excellent customer service to residents, the business community and other City departments through various divisions; Automotive, Central, Engineering, Landscape Services, R.O.W. Maintenance & Enforcement, Sanitation, Sustainable Public Infrastructure, and Utilities.
