RECOGNITION POLICY

PURPOSE:

To recognize an exceptional regular part-time employee on a quarterly basis. The employee selected will exemplify the City of Coral Gables Mission – “To honor our history by providing exceptional services that enhance the quality of life for our community”.

 

ELIGIBILITY:

All City of Coral Gables regular (year-round) part-time employees are eligible to be nominated for the Part-Time Quarterly Employee Recognition Award with the exception of the following:

  • Temporary or seasonal employees
  • Part-Time employees who have been previously selected as Part-Time Employee of the Quarter within the last two (2) years.
  • Part-Time employees who have been with the City less than six (6) months.


NOMINATIONS/SELECTION:

Nominations can be submitted by City of Coral Gables Directors, employees or residents. The nominations may be found on the City of Coral Gables website or on the City’s Intranet website. Completed nominations must then be submitted electronically to mmilian@coralgables.com.    

Once a nomination is received, the Employee Recognition Program Coordinator (from the Department of Human Resources) will review each nomination to confirm eligibility. If the nomination meets with the City’s criteria, it will be presented to an Evaluation Committee (Committee is composed of members who evaluate the full-time Employee of the Quarter program) for review and consideration.

Nominations will be considered for a total of six (6) consecutive months. If selected, the part-time employee and director will be notified and a letter acknowledging their selection will be sent to the part-time employee with a copy placed in their personnel file.

 

 DEADLINES:

Nominations may be submitted at any time but should be submitted by the following deadlines to be considered: First quarter - January to March, Second quarter - April to June, Third quarter July – September and Fourth quarter October - December. 

CRITERIA:

An Employee worthy of receiving this recognition should display any of the following criteria:

These criteria address employee achievements related to activities over and above assigned responsibilities (i.e., extra activities) -  

  • Performing extra duties beyond those normally assigned.
  • Performing other roles when the department is short-staffed.
  • Volunteering for and working on special projects.
  • Volunteering to serve on committee and contributing to its success.
  • Developing new work methods that reduce waste or stretch resources.
  • Making creative suggestions that save the department time/money.
  • Providing services to residents and/or others that are beyond assigned responsibilities.
  • Employees who perform normally assigned responsibilities at an exceptional level (must be identified by a Supervisor.)

 

RECOGNITION:

The selected candidate for the Part-Time Quarterly Employee Recognition Award will have the choice to either be recognized at a Commission meeting held shortly after being selected or in their respective department. The part-time employee will receive a plaque of recognition and will be issued a check in the amount of $300.00. If the part-time employee elected to be recognized at a Commission meeting, a video showcasing the employee will also be shown during the presentation. In addition, a photograph of the employee will be displayed in City Hall for the duration of the six (6) month period and later given to the employee.
