Community Recreation


All special events requiring a Special Events Permit will be suspended until further notice. All City events including The Farmers Market and sports tournaments will be suspended until further notice. The Adult Activity Center, Merrick House, Passport Acceptance Facility, Venetian Pool, Tennis Centers, Youth Center and Granada Golf Course will be closed until further notice. All City advisory board meetings are suspended until further notice. All City quasi-judicial board meetings are suspended for the month of April. City Trolley service and Freebee service will continue until further notice. All other city services and facilities will remain open until further notice.
Consistent with Miami-Dade County's declared state of emergency, City of Coral Gables Mayor Raúl Valdés-Fauli has declared a City State of Emergency effective March 12, 2020 due to the public health threat of COVID-19. About Community Recreation
The Community Recreation Department oversees the Parks and Recreation, Adult Services, Youth Center and Playgrounds, Tennis Centers, Venetian Pool, Golf Course and Parks Maintenance, Granada Golf Course, and Special Events Divisions. The Department provides a broad range of recreational opportunities for all ages.


Fred Couceyro
Parks and Recreation Director

Fred Couceyro is the Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Coral Gables Parks and Recreation Department. He has been employed by the City of Coral Gables since May 1996, when he began as Recreation Leader in the Youth Center Division. Mr. Couceyro was promoted to Recreation Specialist overseeing athletic programs in 1998. In 2000, he was promoted to the position of Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation, where he led the effort for Department’s National Accreditation in 2001.

In 2007, he was promoted to his current position of Parks and Recreation Director. As Director, Mr. Couceyro oversees the operations of eight divisions, including facilities such as Venetian Pool, the Coral Gables War Memorial Youth Center, Adult Activity Center, Granada Golf course and Kerdyk Biltmore/Salvadore Tennis Centers. Prior to his employment with the City of Coral Gables, he served as Assistant Sports Information Director for Miami-Dade Community College, Kendall. He also served with The Atlanta Braves as a Public Relations Assistant and with the Florida Marlins as a Media Relations Assistant.

Mr. Couceyro received his Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Florida International University in 1992. In 1996, he received his Master’s in Science degree in Sports Administration from St. Thomas University. Mr. Couceyro has been a Nationally Certified Parks and Recreation Professional for over 15 years.
