"It Starts In Parks" is an initiative of the Florida Recreation and Park Association intended to better position parks and recreation in the future to be recognized and supported for the important benefits and services provided by the profession, to citizens of and visitors to the State of Florida. The intended outcome of the initiative is that people in the state of Florida will know, value and support the profession of parks and recreation.
The people of the "It Starts in Parks" initiative are decision-makers at the city, county, state levels; related professions including health, public safety, planning, law enforcement, etc.; current and perspective professionals including full time staff, part time staff, potential professionals, and valued volunteers; and the public including citizen advocates, civic and service organizations.
Eight "messages" incorporate the benefits of parks and recreation to a community. The messages center around A Sense of Community; Good Health; Respect for Nature; Conservation of our Natural Treasurers; Economic Development; Achievement; Ties to our Heritage; and Florida's Future. The "It Starts in Parks" slogan was first developed through a partnership between the National Recreation and Park Association and Sports Illustrated intended to identify the top "sports towns" across the United States.
The City of Coral Gables is proud to be a part of the "It Starts In Parks" campaign.
