Chapman Field Community Day
Date: 2/25/2017 10:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Cost: Free

Come join us at this USDA research facility, see how agricultural research and experiments are done, and learn the fascinating history of this property.

Over the years, this station has been responsible for the introduction and/or development of many of our favorite plants and fruits here in South Florida, and this is an opportunity to learn more about the many contributions that scientists at this facility have made, and continue to make, for the benefit of our community and our nation.

  • This event will feature presentations by cacao pathologist Dr. Alina Campbell on diseases of cacao, Dr. Christopher Baraloto on chemical composition of latex of tropical tree species, extraction laboratory tours by Dr. Nurhayat Tabanca and a flavor extract interactive experience with Ashley Duval.
  • Plant Sales, Food Vendors, Demonstrations, Children’s Activities, Live Music, and Educational Displays will all be on site for your education and enjoyment.
  • Trolley and walking tours of the over 200-acre experimental groves and extensive plant collections.
  • The USDA-ARS station will also be distributing FREE Jacaranda caerulea trees as long as supplies last.
