The goal of the Senior Services Division is to help older residents lead happier, healthier, and more independent lives. The City's Senior Services Coordinator is available to help seniors find activities and services in and around Coral Gables. This assistance is also offered to younger residents who are caring for an elderly relative living elsewhere.
The City organizes special senior outings and makes every effort possible to provide transportation or make other arrangements as needed so our services are accessible to all.
Recently, the City collaborated with experts from the University of Miami to create a “needs assessment” of the elderly in Coral Gables. This study yielded valuable information that is being used to plan for future senior programs and facilities in the Gables. The City also counts on input from the Senior Citizens Advisory Board, a panel of residents who meet regularly to advise the City Commission on issues related to senior citizens.
The Senior Services Coordinator maintains close ties with other organizations around South Florida that offer services for the elderly, and can make referrals where appropriate. For more information, please contact the Parks and Recreation Division at 305-460-5622.
