The Plan

Crosswalks are an important way to alert of people crossing the roadway.  The City Commission appropriated $300,000 over two years to restripe crosswalks throughout the City. In the first year, Public Works will stripe high visibility crosswalks and install over 200 optional in-ground pedestrian paddles to educate motorists and bicyclists that the state law requires that you yield to people in crosswalks.  In addition to restriping existing crosswalks, the City will be striping new crosswalks in 46 locations.  These locations were selected based on their proximity to schools, City facilities and churches.  The optional in-ground pedestrian paddles will be in place for a year and relocated next year.  The big idea is that the message to yield to pedestrians will be everywhere and it can’t be missed. Coral Gables will be THE City where drivers and bicyclists know they must yield to people in crosswalks.

In Fiscal Year 2018, the City will expand outward from the locations identified this year, restriping crosswalks and relocating in-ground pedestrian paddles to new locations.
