The goal of the Coral Gables Museum is to explore and illuminate the culture of the City of Coral Gables though events, exhibits, and a broad range of activities including a web site. The museum will collect and exhibit art and artifacts connected with the history and culture of Coral Gables. It will also explore the many facets of culture that make Coral Gables special in the present, and will find an active role in imagining the possibilities for the future.
Under the guidance of the Board of Directors, the professional staff will use its experience to build permanent collections and create imaginative exhibitions that are sure to inspire a variety of audiences. A wide range in age and cultural traditions are central features of both our audience and our subject. Through history, the arts, and current trends in culture, the Museum is being designed to provide a stage on which Coral Gables can explore and appreciate what makes the community that we love. The Museum will reach out with classes, performances and other special events as well as through publications and programming in book and digital form.
The Coral Gables Museum will house the City of Coral Gables Archives and provide public access to this growing collection of documents and photographs of importance to the City, its residents, and its visitors. A permanent collection of art and artifacts relating to Coral Gables will provide a foundation for exhibitions and programs. Nonetheless, the future remains a wide-open horizon for planning the exhibitions and building the Permanent Collection. With a mandate to celebrate Coral Gables Culture through its role as a community museum, the Coral Gables Museum relies on the interest and input of the community. The community will find many ways to influence the museum through donations of time, money, or collections.
The Museum is an independent, non-profit organization that will build its own identity. With financial help from the City, County and State, along with significant private donations, the Coral Gables Museum has a broad base in its funding which will help the museum thrive as it continually finds ways to be an embodiment of the community of Coral Gables.
