  Certified & Non-Certified Police Officer
SALARY: Non-Certified: $42,057.60 Annually. Certified: $46,404.80 - $75,588.53 Annually (Salary includes longevity. Starting salary depends on experience.)
DUTIES: Performs general police work in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances.
REQUIREMENTS: All applicants must be of good moral character with no felony or misdemeanor convictions involving "moral turpitude" and must complete all requirements established by the Coral Gables Police Department.

· All applicants will be required to pass an in depth background investigation.

· Possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Graduation from the United States Armed Forces Institute (USAFI) is acceptable when accompanied by a transcript of grades. Out-of-state GED or the USAFI equivalency must be acceptable by the State of Florida Police Standards Council.

· Completion of 54 college credits. A comparable amount of training and/or experience in civilian law enforcement, federal law enforcement, or the military may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Military must present proof of honorable discharge or release.

· Be a U.S. citizen.

· Be at least 19 years of age.

· Have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record and must obtain a valid Florida driver’s license prior to employment.

· Meet vision requirements: Binocular and monocular vision of 20/100 uncorrected and 20/30 or better corrected. Must have color vision.

· Florida certified police applicants must have a State of Florida Basic Law Enforcement Certification in good standing. All out-of-state certified officers and Federal Officers must have at least one (1) complete year of full time police experience and must meet the minimum requirements governed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) to determine training exemptions and an Equivalency of Training.
SELECTION PROCESS: Non-certified applicants must pass the Adult Basic Education Test (TABE) and the Florida Basic Abilities Test (FBAT).

All applicants must pass a physical agility test, a credit check, polygraph test, psychological test, medical examination and oral interview.
BENEFITS: Benefits include health and life insurance, employee eligible to buy-back previous government/military service up to 5 years, take home car, uniforms provided by City with a $700.00 allowance, Master's Degree benefit of $50.00/month, Special Unit Allowances, Training/Certification pay, 80 hours of annual leave and 96 hours of sick leave for first year, bereavement leave, Post Employment Health Plan, Contributory Retirement Plan, vesting in 10 years, and tuition reimbursement of $1,500/semester.
