The
Information Technology Department is responsible for the hardware and software
infrastructure of the entire city. This consists of the city’s enterprise
systems, government applications, web sites, internet access,
carrier services (voice, local, long distance, mobile), telephone
networks, fiber optics and systems engineering projects. Our
mission is to provide efficiency and cost savings through the use of
information systems and technology to serve the citizens of Coral Gables.
This division performs enterprise business analysis and enterprise applications
planning, coordination, allocation, implementation and management, as well as the city's Geographic
Information Systems (GIS) coordination.

SYSTEMS, APPLICATIONS, NETWORK, TELECOM AND
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Systems - This division is in charge
of systems engineering, maintenance, analysis, support and administration. It
includes hardware and software automation systems, databases, web Internet and
Intranet portals, server infrastructure and related applications.
Network and Telecom - This division
designs, engineers, and implements telecom and network systems, including
WAN/LAN voice, data and video network equipment, wireless, fiber, leased
bandwidth links, facilities and environmental.
Business Development - Applies
analysis, research and techniques to create new alliances and discover
City-oriented technology opportunities to benefit the City and the community.
Generating cost analysis for potential projects and generate reports and
recommendations. Potential opportunities presentation management and writing,
pitch and presentation rehearsals, and business model design. Propose custumer
service and implementation strategies.
FINANCE, BUSINESS ANALYSIS,
WAREHOUSE/FLEET MANAGEMENT
Finance - This division performs
technical work in the preparation and maintenance of the IT budget and related
documents. Preparation of the IT annual budget estimate and the IT annual
budget; records, itemizes, reconciles and revises IT budget information;
summarizes and projects revenues and expenditures..
Business Development - This division
provides business processes and supports critical business strategies by
directing the development, implementation, training and maintenance of business
application systems. Develops critical business strategies citywide in
conformance with available architectural infrastructure. Coordinates with other
departments regarding collaborative projects to ensure appropriate business
application system and necessary layered products are in place.
Warehouse / Fleet Management - This
division supervises the IT Depot located at the facilities building and
maintains warehouse equipment inventory. Provides support to Field Operations
Division during deployment and maintenance of hardware. Keep track IT vehicle
fleet for scheduled maintenance and repairs.
IT PROJECT MANAGEMENT, GIS,
SERVICE DESK AND IT TRAINING
IT Project Management
Functions - This section administers project supervision, guidance and
scheduling. Manages project planning, work breakdown, project execution,
monitoring, reporting, project completion and evaluation, including
post-project maintenance and updates. This section establishes policies,
standard operating procedures, strategies, project goals and milestones.
GIS Functions - This section manages
all aspects and phases of the development, maintenance, production and
distribution of City-wide Geographic Information System (GIS) services.
Provides internet mapping services, spatial data management services, spatial
imaging services. Maintains, updates and develops GIS data through data
capture, data exchange and data transformation. Designs, develops and
implements GIS web applications and services.
Service Desk Functions - This section
manages and administers day to day calls for IT service from City staff and
customers using City IT services. Provides over-the-phone and remote customer
support, dispatches field staff for on-site response and tracks calls for
service until issue is resolved. The sections coordinates, plans and schedules
IT resources to manage calls for service in the course of other IT projects and
enterprise deployments, upgrades and maintenance.
IT Training Functions - This section
provides City-wide IT-related training courses for City administrative and
clerical staff of `office automation’ applications. Coordinates and administers
IT staff development and certification curriculum, providing training and
educational objectives in technology and software development.
FIELD SERVICES, CUSTOMER
ADVOCATE AND PURCHASING
Field Services - Responsible for
supporting the day-to-day operations of all city departments by providing a
high-quality level of on-site customer service and technical expertise to
resolve a wide variety of PC, telecommunication and network issues. Also
responsible for maintaining client-side IT equipment citywide and ensuring that
any moves, adds, or changes are properly documented and tracked for inventory
purposes.
Customer Advocate - Responsible for
interfacing with all city departments to ascertain any technical requirements
and developing solutions to fulfill these requests. Also responsible for
monitoring the performance ratings of all completed service requests to ensure
that all city departments are receiving the level of service they require.
Purchasing - Responsible for managing
the purchase, shipping, receiving and deployment of all IT-related items for
all city departments. Also responsible for ensuring that the items purchased
satisfy the customer’s requirements and that any hardware pending off-site
repair is properly packaged and shipped.
