Coral Gables provides excellent municipal services and has achieved the highest national standards in almost every field. The City has a strong economic base, where less than five percent of the land area contributes 46 percent of the tax base. Coral Gables also boasts of an accredited Police Department, a distinction shared by only 3 percent of local and state police departments in the United States, and is one of only three cities to have both a Class 1 and an accredited Fire Department.
The City has one of only two Class 1 Building and Zoning Departments in the nation. All combined, Coral Gables is one of two cities across the nation to have met all these standards of excellence. In addition, Coral Gables has been named a Tree City USA for over 22 consecutive years by the National Arbor Foundation.
